This feature allows systems to be protected against malicious code and viruses. In combination with an operating system that supports this feature, memory is marked as non-executable unless the location explicitly contains executable code. Some viruses attempt to insert and execute code from non-excecutable memory locations. These attacks are intercepted and an exception is raised. This feature must be enabled both in the operating system and in ROM-Based Setup. This feature is referred to as Data Execution Prevention (DEP) in Windows operating systems. Added support for future Intel Xeon processors.Added support for improved processor thermal protection when the processor reaches extreme temperatures. Added support to automatically lower power usage by processors which are halted (not performing any tasks). This operation occurs automatically and requires no user configuration. Updated to improve performance for certain PCI-33 and PCI-66 expansion cards. This ROM will improve performance for PCI expansion cards that perform burst memory reads from system memory. This does not affect performance of PCI-X or PCI-Express expansion cards. The modifications to this System ROM version are known to improve performance for PCI expansion cards utilizing the Intel i960 RD chipset, the AMCC PCI MatchMaker chipset, and the PLX PCI9656-BA66BI Chipset.
Updated to work-around issue with PCI and PCI-X cards that do not retry delayed transactions within the appropriate amount of time. Updated to resolve issue where the Broadcom PXE Option ROM did not use the proper Universal Unique ID. This will not result in any issues unless a specific UUID is required. If the PXE server is configured to only download images to servers with specific UUIDs, then the PXE installation will not work properly if the UUID the PXE Option ROM is using does not match the one configured on the PXE server.
Updated LSI U320 SCSI Option ROM to version 5.05.18.02. This Option ROM resolves an issue in which the SCSI hard drive could not be detected in a system configured with two LSI U320 SCSI controllers and a tape drive in OBDR mode. ProLiant ML370 G4 ROM P50 (06/01/2005) Updated the ROM-Based Virtual Install Disk driver for the LSI U320 SCSI Controller and the Smart Array SAS/SATA Controller. - Monitoring processor power states via HP's Integrated Lights Out (iLO) functionality when a system is configured for Power Regulator HP Dynamic Power Savings Mode. This allows a customer using iLO and Power Regulator to monitor processor power usage. This feature requires upgrading iLO Firmware to version 1.80 or later.
- HP's One-Button Disaster Recovery (OBDR) solution with USB tape drives. This support can be enabled when a USB Tape Drive is placed in OBDR mode and the user selects OBDR support during POST by pressing F8 when prompted.

Version:4.04 (P50-06/01/2005) (15 Jul 2005) ProLiant ML370 G4 ROM P50 (06/01/2005) Added RBSU option to address issues with certain PCI-Express cards which may result in an NMI or Windows blue screen in inappropriate instances. The issue arises over the interpretation of the specification governing PCI-Express. Different PCI-Express cards interpret certain error functionality differently. The specification governing PCI-Express will be clarified in a future revision. Legacy PCI SERR is enabled by default. If the installation of a PCI-Express card results in an unexpected NMI or blue screen, modifying this option may address the issue if there are no issues with the PCI-Express card.
Updated to improve performance for certain PCI-33 and PCI-66 expansion cards. This ROM will improve performance for PCI expansion cards that perform burst memory reads from system memory. This does not affect performance of PCI-X or PCI-Express expansion cards. The modifications to this System ROM version are known to improve performance for PCI expansion cards utilizing the Intel i960 RD chipset, the AMCC PCI MatchMaker chipset, and the PLX PCI9656-BA66BI Chipset.
Updated to work-around issue with PCI and PCI-X cards that do not retry delayed transactions within the appropriate amount of time. This condition was resulting in an NMI and bluescreen under Microsoft Windows operating systems. This issue was seen with the Stratis MPEG-2 Decoder PCI Card. The issue would occur with any PCI card utilizing the Phillips SAA7146AH PCI-PCI Bridge.
Updated to resolve issue where the Broadcom PXE Option ROM did not use the proper Universal Unique ID. This will not result in any issues unless a specific UUID is required. If the PXE server is configured to only download images to servers with specific UUIDs, then the PXE installation will not work properly if the UUID the PXE Option ROM is using does not match the one configured on the PXE server.
Updated LSI U320 SCSI Option ROM to version 5.05.18.02. This Option ROM resolves an issue in which the SCSI hard drive could not be detected in a system configured with two LSI U320 SCSI controllers and a tape drive in OBDR mode. ProLiant ML370 G4 ROM P50 (06/01/2005) Updated the ROM-Based Virtual Install Disk driver for the LSI U320 SCSI Controller and the Smart Array SAS/SATA Controller. These drivers allow installations of Microsoft Windows 2003 32-bit and Windows 2003 64-bit x86 without requiring the customer to provide a driver via a floppy disk or other means.
This System ROM includes the following versions of the SCSI Controller drivers:
- symmpi.sys - 1.10.1.0 05/26/2004 (LSI Logic Ultra320 SCSI) for 32-bit x86 editions of Microsoft Windows Server 2003.
- hpcisss2.sys - 5.0.2.32 05/06/2005 (Smart Array SAS/SATA) for 32-bit x86 editions of Microsoft Windows Server 2003.
- hpcisss2.sys - 5.0.2.6 05/06/2005 (Smart Array SAS/SATA) for 64-bit x86 editions of Microsoft Windows Server 2003.
Added support for the following:
- Monitoring processor power states via HP's Integrated Lights Out (iLO) functionality when a system is configured for Power Regulator HP Dynamic Power Savings Mode. This allows a customer using iLO and Power Regulator to monitor processor power usage. This feature requires upgrading iLO Firmware to version 1.80 or later.
- HP's One-Button Disaster Recovery (OBDR) solution with USB tape drives. This support can be enabled when a USB Tape Drive is placed in OBDR mode and the user selects OBDR support during POST by pressing F8 when prompted.
Version:4.03 (P50-04/15/2005) (18 May 2005) ProLiant ML370 G4 ROM P50 (04/15/2005) Updated embedded PXE Option ROM to version 7.7.8. This Option ROM addresses an issue where the NIC could assert a spurious interrupt during PXE boots. If using a Smart Array 64X or Smart Array 6i controller with a firmware version prior to 2.36 and the previous PXE Option ROM, a lock-up or continuous reboot could occur when performing a PXE Remote Installation Services (RIS) installation of Windows.
Modified System ROM to show chassis type as tower server for software querying chassis type from the SMBIOS table.

Resolved issue where the system could hang during POST if the MPS Mode is set to Disabled in ROM-Based Setup. ProLiant ML370 G4 ROM P50 (04/15/2005) Added support for the following:
- OS-level power management. When the Power Regulator feature is disabled (default), Demand Based Switching may be enabled under the operating system to provide processor power management. The operating system will modify the CPU's frequency and voltage based on CPU Utilization. This feature can be enabled under Microsoft Windows 2003 Service Pack 1 and future versions of the Linux kernel.
- Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) models using the Smart Array P600 controller. The driver for this controller will be included in HP's exclusive ROM-based Virtual Install Disk eliminating the requirement for a floppy diskette with the SA P600 driver during a Windows 2003 install.
Version:4.02 (P50-12/02/2004) (12 Jan 2005) Updated the support code for all Intel Xeon processors supported by this system. This addresses a critical issue in all Intel Xeon Processors with 800 MHz System Bus. All customers should update their System ROMs to address this processor issue. For more details, refer to Customer Advisory EL050202_CW02.Updated to resolve issues with specific USB floppy, CD, and Drive Key devices which would not function properly and could result in POST lock-ups. There were timing issues with specific devices which were addressed. For more details, refer to Customer Advisory EB041123_CW01.
Updated to resolve issue that may result in system hangs on reboots during mini-setup of the Windows OS installation for systems that included an OS pre-installation from HP's factory. Previously, customers had to power off and on their servers to continue the installation to work-around this issue. For more details, refer to Customer Advisory EM040927_CW01.
Updated to resolve issue where systems with exactly 4 Gbytes of memory will not make all 4 GBytes available to the operating system. Typically, the system will report 3.5 Gbytes as being available to the operating system even though 4 Gbytes of DIMMs are installed. Various devices in the system, including embedded PCI devices, plug-in PCI devices, and PCI-Express devices, must have their memory mapped below 4 Gbytes. With previous ROM versions, the memory space used by these devices was lost. With the new version of the System ROM, the memory which was previously lost will be remapped to above 4 Gbytes. Thus, all memory will be available to the operating system, but some of that memory is only addressable above 4 Gbytes. To access memory above 4 Gbytes, the operating system must be configured to enable Physical Address Extensions (PAE) Mode. Consult your operating system user’s guide on how to enable PAE mode. For more details, refer to Customer Advisory EL041214_CW01.
Updated to resolve issue where POST would hang when certain (typically high-performance) video cards were installed in the server. The problem occurred when any video card was installed in the server with an option ROM greater than 32 Kbytes. For more details, refer to Customer Advisory EL041208_CW01.
Updated to resolve intermittent issue that occurs on certain system reboots in which interrupts will not be distributed evenly among installed processors. Typically, all interrupts would be directed to one processor when this problem occurs. This condition can result in less than optimal performance. For more details, refer to Customer Advisory EL050202_CW01.
Upgraded the system ROM to include LSI U320 Firmware Version 1.03.39.00 for the embedded LSI U320 storage controller. The System ROM must contain this LSI U320 firmware version if the HP Single-Channel U320 SCSI HBA G2 storage controller is installed in an expansion slot. Added support for No Execution Mode (NX Mode). This feature allows systems to be protected against malicious code and viruses. In combination with an operating system that supports this feature, memory is marked as non-executable unless the location explicitly contains executable code. Some viruses attempt to insert and execute code from non-excecutable memory locations. These attacks are intercepted and an exception is raised. This feature must be enabled both in the operating system and in ROM-Based Setup. This feature is referred to as Data Execution Prevention (DEP) in Windows operating systems. Added support for future Intel Xeon processors.Added support for improved processor thermal protection when the processor reaches extreme temperatures. Added support to automatically lower power usage by processors which are halted (not performing any tasks). This operation occurs automatically and requires no user configuration. Added new ROM-Based Setup Advanced Option called Expansion Card Caching Optimization. Enabling this option allows very rare expansion cards (such as Quadrics Elan) to cache their I/O resources for improved performance. The card and its driver must support this optimization to take advantage of this feature. Unless an expansion card is installed, this option should be left disabled. Added initial support for the future x86 64-bit extensions Windows operating system. This support is only needed for the 64-bit extensions version of the HP System Management Driver. If not using the System Management Driver under this operating system, this support has no impact. Added new RBSU feature called Dynamic Power Savings Mode (Auto) under the ProLiant Power Governor option in Advanced Options. When this feature is enabled, the System ROM will modify the processor's power state based on the system's workload. When processor intensive workloads are being run, the processor will run in its highest power and performance state. When the processor is doing little work, the processor will run at a lower power and performance state. This allows the system to reduce its overall power usage while having minimal or no effect on performance. This feature works independent of the operating system and requires no additional drivers or OS support to operate. ProLiant ML370 G4 ROM P50 (08/26/2004) Added support for the following:
- RBSU option to allow configuring the system for reduced processor power mode. This feature will reduce the core voltage and frequency of the processors when enabled. This may be useful for customers whose environment has constrained power availability.
- To allow the system to reclaim memory lost to the PCI hole when the system is configured with more than 4GB of memory. For these configurations, more memory is made available to the operating system.
